The competitive season of the club is drawing to a close, with external tournaments and matches largely played and competitions soon to be finished. Those of you who follow the news on our website will know that we recently held a very successful handicap GC First Season Competition for those who joined the club this year, and last Sunday we held the Christine Long handicap GC tournament open to all members.
The First Season competition demonstrated very clearly how well our beginners from 2021 have progressed, and we look forward to seeing many of them taking part in the regional competitions next year, as part of the Chester GC Handicap Golf Team. The winner on the day was Sarah Clements, who won all of her 7 games, with Ian Shaw in second place and Danny Fisher in third. Well done all who played. The games were a delight to watch. Thanks to Sally Slater for the organization.
The annual Christine Long competition was played later in the season this year than is usual and therefore faced more uncertain weather, but provided a very entertaining day of croquet. Ian Meadows played exceptionally well to win his sub group, and in the final faced a formidable opponent in Kerry Dadson who had won all of his subgroup games. Ian surged ahead in the final, but Kerry fought back in style and very nearly caught up to Ian, when time ran out leaving Ian the winner at 6-5. An exciting finish to a very enjoyable contest. Thanks to Edward Baskerville for all his preparation and management on the day.
There are two more competitions ahead. The Masons Cup tournament, a full lawn handicap AC competition will be held over the weekend of the 23/24th October, and on Monday November 1st there will be an open short lawn AC handicap competition. Spectators are always welcome of course, and for those members playing GC who have not yet been drawn into AC it is well worth popping up to the club and watching for a while.
Meanwhile the ongoing RAT league will continue until the end of October. Similarly there are still a few more games to play in the AC Short lawn Hastings Wang competition ! So still time to fit in some more games !
Finally, we have one more “Social Sunday” to take part in. This will be held on Sunday 17th October, from 2pm and as always you are welcome to bring along friends and family. There may even be a little competition to take part in ( but only if you want to …..) Let us hope for good weather to go with the good company.
See you then if not before
