Chester croquet teams had two wins in North West Federation leagues this week.
On a glorious summer day on Wednsday, 5 July, the Chester Chariots Level Play Golf team of Maureen Ivens (captain), Garry Greenwood and Roger Haigh had a nail biting win over the visiting Bury team. Bury were leading 8 – 7 before the final three games of the afternoon, but Chester won all three to achieve the winning score of 10 – 8. Garry Greenwood won all six of his games, the last one going to the golden hoop. Maureen Ivens clinched the final match of the afternoon by beating her opponent by just one hoop. If this game had gone the other way, Bury would have emerged the winner.
It was another win for Chester in the Golf Croquet Handicap League at home against Westmorland on Sunday, 9 July. The Chester team were Pauline Walters (Cpt, Robert Jones, Doreen Leece and Mollie Crawford. After an exciting match Chester emerged the victors with a comfortable 14 – 4 win.
